40th birthday party

On Saturday night, I cooked a 40th birthday supper party for a group of 15.

They were a happy group, listened to music, drank wine, and did an around the table game of coming up with thesaurus terms to describe the birthday girl.

They ate a beef stew (from an old Gourmet; I think December 1989; can't find it online), and lentil chili, with parslied rice, and carrots roasted with garlic and thyme and olive oil (Deborah Madison's idea, and a good one, and the carrots were from Tipi produce, so they were extra good carrots.) And Marion Cunningham's biscuits, half whole wheat and half white, with pie for dessert.

Mixed fruit pie, peaches, blueberries and cranberries from my freezer. Garbage pie Mark calls it.

Here're a few more pictures of the table set for supper.

It was one of the nicest meals I have ever enjoyed. The hostess was remarkable, the food was incredible and the friends never looked better. Cheers! -mimi
