Last night, Midsummer's Eve, I hosted a dinner. There ended up being 21 diners, a few last minute additions, and counting me - so even though the one large party was 13, and had a reserved L -shaped table made from two tables set together, there really weren't 13 at the table.
It was "indoor picnic". I made:
- sandwiches, goat cheese & sun-dried tomato on focaccia, and egg salad and shrimp salad stuffed into (buttered) home made hot dog buns
- pickley carrots [but less sugary than my online recipe; 1/2 part sugar to 3 parts vinegar, e.g. 3 cups vinegar to 1/2 cup sugar], and olives and tamari almonds
- pasta salad, with salami & black olives & artichoke hearts & pesto, and both rotini and parmesan cheese raviolini
- Ovens of Brittany wild rice salad
- Unky Dave's potato salad
- spice rubbed picnic chicken
- Dulce de Leche bars - the July Gourmet just arrived and I always think that if I am in the process of planning a meal, and a Gourmet comes, there is probably a dish in that issue that belongs on the menu (hmm, they don't seem to have it on the web site yet ...)
- Blueberry Crisp with vanilla ice cream
- Strawberry Cake (with Matt Smith's strawberries on top)
