Frigid

When I finally got out of bed this morning, the thermometer outside the kitchen window said 10 below. There had been some pretty hellacious sounding gusts of wind in the night, but then things were pretty quiet - didn't hear any of my neighbors getting out there to shovel, so there didn't seem to be any reason for us to get out there, either.

Turned out the Madison Schools were closed, and they never close - one reason for the quiet - and the other reason was the blizzard snow was basically UN-shovelable. There wasn't very much of it, and what there was was either blown off or frozen down solid, take your pick.

I had a bowl of oatmeal cooked with diced dates leftover from Christmas cookies, and a banana. And whole milk and a little brown sugar. And it didn't even need the brown sugar. Read a bit (the New Yorker article about the differences between Hillary and Obama, right after NPR slipped the news that Edwards is dropping out - man, I still sure hope it's not McCain v. Clinton in November - he might win ...) and got to work by 10:30, just about right since I had to teach an evening class till 7:30 p.m.
