Usually at this time of year, I am blanching and skinning and freezing tomatoes, and making tomato sauce, and roasting tomatoes and peppers to freeze, and making pesto.
But this year we had floods, as well as extremes of cold and hot - so last Saturday at the farmers' market, what basil there was was either bolted, or spotty and brown and expensive. My CSA, Tipi Produce, canceled all their extra basil orders, and has not offered us the usual bulk orders of tomatoes and peppers, because of the cold and wet.
