We finally got our snow day here in Madison, and it's actually a windchill day - early this morning, when they were deciding whether to close school, it was -16, with a high of -1 (what it is now, at 3:00 in the afternoon) forecast.
When it double-digits below zero, even the Madison schools close, because it's too cold for kids to stand and wait for the bus, let alone go out for recess on the playground. They use this National Weather Service chart - at -15, with a 10 mile an hour wind, kids could get frost bite in 30 minutes, so they did not want to risk it.
Tomorrow it's supposed to go all the way up to 8, and maybe even snow, so we'll be back at school tomorrow.
